Castor Oil Packs

The wonders of Castor Oil Packs

Treatment with a castor oil pack is recommended to improve assimilations, eliminations, circulation and to stimulate the lymphatic system.  It is effective in breaking down scar tissue from C-sections, hysterectomy, and laparoscopy; also reducing internal masses such as cysts, fibroids, and blockages in the fallopian tubes.  Castor oil packs are also beneficial for inflammatory conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis and POCS. They ease menstrual pain by bringing healthy blood flow to the uterus.  They can be beneficially used to support the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterine health, while promoting detoxification before conception.

When to use:

  • For conception preparation, use three times a week for at least 30 minutes
  • If actively trying to conceive, only use between menstruation and ovulation
  • For healing or detoxification purposes, use as often as possible

When not to use:

  • If pregnant, breastfeeding or menstruating
  • On scar tissue less than 12 weeks or on broken skin

What you will need:

  • Castor oil – good quality, organic
  • Flannel – natural cotton or wool flannel is best – big enough to cover the abdominal area.
  • Heat: heating pad or hot water bottle- I suggest allocating a heat pack for this use only.

Instructions for use:

  • Put the flannel in a pan or bowl and pour warm castor oil on it. Saturate the whole flannel and leave it until it is well-saturated. When you use it, you want it saturated, but not dripping.
  • Spread out an old towel or two that you can lie on so that the castor oil will not soil your surface.
  • Place the pack on your abdomen, cover with a sheet of plastic then place with the heating pad on top and wrap the towel from underneath around your abdomen. It should be very warm, but not so hot that it burns you. It is good to have a pillow under your knees.
  • Ideally, keep the pack on for 20-60mins .
  • Have a paper towel handy to wipe the oil off yourself when you get up.
  • After each use, you will probably need to add a little more castor oil. You can use the flannel many times. When you are not using it, you can store it in a plastic container in the fridge.
